35 Cold and Flu Home Remedies

Prevention

  1. Avoid standing in a draft or blowing air conditioner for a long time because that is how you catch a cold.
  2. Cold Hardening your body – this makes your body more resistant to respiratory infections such as the flu.
  3. During a flu epidemic avoid shaking hands.
  4. Avoid public transportation and other crowded places.
  5. Spend more time outside. It is almost impossible to catch the flu in fresh air.
  6. Keep a window open and make sure your house has plenty of fresh air.
  7. Clean your house with vinegar rather than other than harsh chemicals.

Treatment for a cold or flu

  1. Get as much rest as you can. Take naps if possible.
  2. Practice deep breathing for a minute. Passively breathe in through your nose and actively breathe out through your mouth.
  3. Avoid eating heavy foods while sick with a cold or flu.
  4. Drink as much liquids as possible. Herbal teas and juices are a good option.
  5. Eat an orange or other fruit containing Vitamin C.
  6. Korean Method: Boil a broth from Napa cabbage and turnip (about an equal amount of each).  Cool and then strain the broth. Before drinking add one tea spoon of honey and two tea spoons of lemon juice.
  7. Eat fresh currants, if available. If not, drink currant juice or currant preserve.
  8. Drink cranberry juice.
  9. Drink sweetbrier juice. Or make your own by mashing sweetbrier barriers, adding water and boiling them for 10 minutes.
  10. Take sweetbrier berries, raspberry leaves, currant leaves, cranberry leaves. Add two table spoons of the mixture to a cup of boiling water; boil for 10 minutes. Let it cool in under a closed lid. Strain and add sugar to taste. Drink half a cup twice a day
  11. Raspberries with the honey: Mix 1 table spoon of honey, 1 table spoon of sweetbrier, 1 table spoon of raspberries, and 1 table spoon of currants. Then add 100 ml boiling water. Let it steep for 15 minutes. Drink half a cup before a meal. Do this three times.
  12. Mix flowers of linden with flowers of black pith. To about 2 table spoons of mixture add boiling water and boil for 5-10 min. Strain the mixture and drink hot in one sitting.
  13. Linden with European cranberry bush:  To prepare the mixture, use flowers of linden mixed with fruits of European cranberry. Two table spoons of the mixture are mixed with 2 cups of boiling water. Boil for 5-10 minutes and then strain. Drink hot before going to bed, about 1-2 cups.
  14. Linden with raspberries: Recipe same as above. However instead of boiling the mixture let it seep for 20 min. and then strain.
  15. Mix flowers of elder, flowers of linden, and leaves of mint. One table spoon of the mixture mix with two cups of boiling water and boil for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink hot before going to bed.
  16. Mix equally the crust of willow, printing block of chamomile, linden blossoms, fruits of sweetbrier, and lemon peels. Add a cup of boiling water to a t-spoon of the mixture and steep for  10 min. assume on third of container of the warm infusion of 3 times in the day 15 min prior to food. Drink a 1/3 of a cup 15 minutes before eating three times a day.
  17. Ground half a t-spoon of fennel seed into powder and mix with organic sugar. Take two to three times a day during a cold.
  18. Very good remedy from a cold for adults: In a cup mix 1/3 – hot tea, 1/3 red wine and 1/3 raspberries jam. Drink this hot before going to bed.
  19. Wormwood, liqueur on the vodka: Into the bottle of vodka add wormwood grass. Let it sit for 21 day in the dark place, and then strain. When sick with a cold drink 20 gm per day. Drink for 2-3 days.
  20. Alcohol liqueur with eucalyptus leaves: 20 gm of dry, ground leaves of eucalyptus add to alcohol. Close tightly and let it sit for 7 to 8 days and then strain. Add 20-25 drops into ¼ cup of water.
  21. If you feel like you are getting sick with the flu or a cold then take a small onion, grate and put on a paper towel.  Hold the compress right on the wings of your nose for ten minutes (grease your nose with vegetable oil). Repeat this 3 time in 24 hours.
  22. Steep motherwort and chicory root in equal proportions as you would tea.  Drink half a cup 3 times a day while sick with a cold.
  23. Add cranberries to your tea.
  24. Before bed drink saturated broth of apples with the honey. To make the broth, boil an apple for 5 to 10 minutes and strain.
  25. To one cup of tea add mint, wild marjoram and chamomile, ½ t-spoon each, steep for 10 minutes.
  26. To 1 cup of strong tea, add 1/3 cups of honey, 1/3 cups of vodka. Mix it all together and bring to a boil. Drink by small cups.
  27. Mix three parts leaves of nettle, three parts roots of carrot, one part berries of currants, and three parts fruits of sweetbrier. To one table spoon of the mixture add two cups of hot water, and boil for 10 minutes. To insist, steep for 4 hours in a closed dish, then strain. Drink half a cup 2-3 times a day.
  28. Mix fruits of sweetbrier and fruits of rowan. To one table spoon of the mixture add two cups of hot water and boil for 10 minutes, then to insist steep for 4 hours in a closed dish, then to strain. Drink half a cup 2-3 times a day.
